This is a very fun and only service in secondary 3 life. Before I go to the mental hosptial, I think that the patient is not very easy to communicate as I went to IMH before and experience it.
However, during the event when wanted to communicate with them, It was easiler than I though compare to last time I went it before. If there is a chance for my group to go again, I would hope to change about the planning for the patient. I think that we should plan the order of the thing for the patient and let everyone in the group to know during on the way to IMH or before the planning was excuted. I would also wish to have the part where we get together to eat those food as we can have sometime to think about what went wrong or what thing we have done when we are eating. When I am working with the whole group, I would I like to make a comment on Joan. She may be a bad or lousy leader but as she did her best as being a leader as this is the first time I see her being a leader in secondary school. In my group, I think that benefiting the community thorugh the project is more important as we sure will learn something when we are doing things. When we benefit the community, the community may be happy but we did help them and I think when we help them, we will also feel happy about it and I think happiness also the most important

My first impression of IMH was okay, it does not look like a mental hospital,it look like a normal hospital to me.When i reached IMH together with my friends,i felt a little worried,at the same time a little happy.I was worried that when we were playing some games, one of the patients will went crazy and try to kill us but of course they did not, otherwise we would all be dead.As we start out and get ready for the games,i was amazed, they were following our instruction without fail.Although we had to explained a few more times sometimes, but it was worth it,given time, they will actually learn lots of new skills(with the help from the IMH,Nurses,Doctors and us),well, more haste less speed. They looked like they enjoyed the games we organised. And sometimes if one of us dont give them a ball for basketball game, they will go "emo" until we pass them the ball.We had a hard time explaining/communicating with them but in the end,we did it.The IMH patients were very friendly and always give us a warm welcome before entering the wards. After the game,we went to have mini-celebration with the patients,i believe they enjoyed themselves as much as we do.i do not know about the others, but i did not regret going IMH for CIP.That day, they really did open my eyes,i am sure all of us feel proud of them.I believe they can recover from these illness as given chance, they surely will want to live a normal like us.

Well going to IMH was a good thing as we when there to help the others. When I hear Mr Goh saying that we are going to play games with the people at IMH I was feeling a bit of worry as I am not sure if I could communicate with them a not but I did. When we went there on our second visit, I was thinking that how are we going to handle if there was any situation that suddenly pop up but there was not and they are like normal like us who just want to have fun, enjoy themselves and meet new friends. Some of them could even play better then us when comes to Basketball. After the whole thing has come to an end, I think to myself that sometime in life, we need to learn to treasure things and don't take things for granted as not every one was lucky enough to have a second chances but i know that i have learn not to take things for granted and being more patient to people who should have been respect.I have learn a lot like team work during the telematch where we are cheering for our own team. ^.^ Well I just wish that those people living in IMH right now would have enjoy what we have done for them and our self.I will never forget the whole experience there. ^.^!

My first impression on the patients in IMH is that they are really restricted to a ward in the hospital and not allowed to come out. The event that changed my views about them was when they we playing the games, because they were very attentive when we were telling them about the instructions. They look really happy when they were throwing the basketballs into the ring so i thought they were really interested in it. If i were to go there again i would do maybe the same thing and bring them out to have fun. Our group should really improve on the planning as we were actually slow on the planning. The person who had changed my view about him is Yong Hao as he really like participating in the game and was really interested as the patients did. I thing both benefiting the community and learning new things and sharing with others equally important as by helping the community, for this case, the patients of IMH, they actually enjoyed themselves during the games and the food we brought over. Also by learning new things we can share with each other and reflect on each other.

Before the trip to Imh ,
my impression on the mental patients will be
keep in individual 'Cushioned Room'.
They will mumble to themselves ,with their messy hairdo.
Acting like abnormal people and do things that will surprise us.
But i was totally wrong with my thoughts, they lived their life just like us.
One of the event that made me changed my impression on them was when we were playing telematch at the basketball court.
They are not as what i had thought and had coperated well with us.
Like when jerrold requested the patients to form into rows of five,
they quickly moved into their positions.
If there was opportunity for us to go again ,
i believe our group will do another round of telematch
to boast their confidence level and helps them in their recovery.
One thing that our group can improved on was communication.
I can see that our group membes have very little good speakers
and we are shy to speak to them.
One of the person who changed my view for her was Shufei.
Because of this Service Learning Project ,
She took the effort to prepare the refreshment and games stuff.
Like sewing the bag of beans for the telematch usuage.
To me , i choosen benefiting the community is more important as
we are able to make a change for the patients.

A change for hope , love and joy !
Visitors like us are there to chat with them , concern about them and share our precious moment together.
Before our class agreed to go Imh ,
Mr Goh gave us 2 choices , Insitute Mental Hospital or Old Folk's Home.
I thought that my classmate will choose to go old folks home rather than imh
as given their characters my classmate may play a prank or make fun of the patients.
To my surprise , they had choosen to go to imh and not only did they friendly to the patients
and they put in alot of effort to make them happy.
This had changed my view on them.

My impression about the mental patients before the project was that i'm afraid they will think that what we'd plan for them..and that they will be more difficult to communicate. But when i reach there, i found out that they are just like us, easy to communicate and they enjoyed a lot for what we had planned for them. One event that will change my impression of them is the "ping pong "game...they listen to our instructions and they understood them fast. And that they are also very active and are willing to co-operate.If i and my group were to go again i would love to organise more games like volleyball.=) One thing that i think our group need to improve on is that not to talk to one another when some of us are explaining and that we should communicate more to the patients.
During this project, i realise that Rayner actually do things seriously when it was needed and he did well by communicating much with the patients. In my opinion i think that learning new things for ourself and share with others are more important as we could share our experience with other people who had yet to go there. We could also learn being a helpful and caring self.Overall i think we did well and i believe all of us had learn some things!=D

My impression on the patients is that they may be doing something crazy and they were isolated into one room and their lives were quite boring.after the project my point of view for the mental patients have changed. I realised that they are like normal person. The event that change my mind during the project is the part when we were playing the telematch at the basketball court. We had lots of fun.And i got to knowsome of them better than the 1st time we went to the IMH.If the group are to go again,we would organise the telematch again.we would improve the telematch to a more interesting activity.i found out that cassandra is a very helpful and a cheerful person.i feel that learning mew things is much more important because i will keep it with me and i can use it next timewhen it is needed i also can share it with my family and friends.

Before the project, i was looking forward for the visit as i always wanted to go there. When Mr Goh told us that we are going there i felt very excited, but my impession of the mental patients is terrible, i used to think they must be really insane, but after the project my view for the mental patients changed. I realised that they are like normal person, nothing different. I was also asked to be the leader for this telematch group, it was also my first time being a 'leader' so i felt very nervous. I am also inexperience but i tried my best to be a good leader, our group was also very cooporative. The event that change my mind during that project is actually the part when we were playing the games at the basketball court. We had lots of fun. we communicated well with the patients and played together. If we were to go again, we will oraganise those game again and some new game, such as captain's ball. We will also improve on the games in such a way to make the patients feel they are enjoying the games. During this activity, i found out that Rayner communicated well with the patient, he was rather different from what he behave in class. He talks to the patients and doesnt make them felt lonely.I think benefiting the community through your project and learning new things for ourself is important. I think it benefiting the community is important as we bring laugher and joy with them and make them feel actually there are people that concern and care about them. I think through this project, it had also benefited me as i learned things that we cannot buy and those communicate skills we learnt is priceless. It also taught me to be a more caring person. I think benefiting us is more important. I enjoyed myself playing with those patients. I would also share with my family and friends about this.

Before the project, when my teacher, mr goh said that we are going to IMH (institute of mental health) next week, I started to get worried as I always had a bad impression of mental patients . I have an impression that mental patients are unnormal person and that they are some sort of devil person , I also have the feeling that all patients living in IMH are mental people. I also have an impression that mental patients living in IMH are unfriendly people, for example, when you said ‘Hi’ to them, they will beat you. One of the event that made me change my impression of the mental patients during the project is that, on our way to the basketball court, to play some telematch game with them, I got a chance to talk to them and know them better, when I was talking to them, I got to know why they were admitted to the mental hospital and from what they said, I feel sad for them as some patients said that they will stay here for a long long time. When I was playing basketball game together with them, I found out that some were quite professionals in playing basketball, and from there on, I had changed my impression of the mental patients, I found that they were like everyone of us, normal person, I also found that they were friendly and polite as they did not gave any remarks on the game that we had organized. If my group had a chance to go to the mental hospital again, we will still have the refreshments as I find that the refreshments are well coordinated and well planned. The mental patients enjoy the food and drinks that we had provided. We will have the refreshments again because after an activity had ended, the participants might be hungry and need some refreshments, so refreshments is important and we would include it if we go to the mental hospital again. We will still had the telematch if we go to the mental hospital again because we find that the patients in the mental hospital enjoy the telematch very much. But, our group will improve on it by having the telematch being more well-organised. We will work out an activity schedule, for example, how many hours or minutes the game will last, so that we can complete all the activites that we had planned. We will work out a work schedule for each one of us, so to ensure that on that day, we will not be lost and does not know what to do and just stand there and do nothing. We will also plan and create more interesting game. While working on the project, I found out that Rayner is such a kind boy that will care for people around him. When the mental patients are playing the basketball game, he will call them to walk and play slowly so that they will not fall down. I find that both, benefiting the community through our project and learning new things for yourself in order to share with others is important. When we do this project, our aim is to help the community, mental patients in the mental hospital is considered the community. When we do this project, we are benefiting the community as we help to entertain the mental patients, if we does not go there, they will probably be spending the time doing nothing inside their ward. We are also giving them a chance to show off their talents, for example, playing basketball, when a patient throw a ball and the ball goes into the basket, we will cheer for him, by doing this, we are building his confident and letting him to be aware that he is not a useless person. Learning new things for yourself in order to share with others is also important as I can share my experience with my family and friends. I can tell them not to be afraid of mental patients as they are very kind and also to let them know that mental patients have a boring life inside the mental hospital. I think this will influenced them not to be scared of the mental patients and will go to the mental hospital to do voluntary work.

My impression of mental patient before of the project is they are restricted to a certain amount of activity. They were isolated into one room. Their lives were quite boring. When I see metal patient playing basketball, it shows me that they were able to coordinate their ball very well. If the group are to go again, we will organised a basketball competition, as we wanted them to learn teamwork and to share closer bond with each other. One thing we will change or improve upon is rationing of food and drink. We didn't perform our duties well, as some might have more/ less food than others. I think that the group motto ( personal idea ) is 'enrich their lives'. I had found that every member of the group are very well-coordinate with each other and very caring toward the metal patient. I found that both factors are important. By benefiting the community through the project is a crucial factor because we could help them to find their aims of their lives. For example, one of the metal patients has the potential of playing basketball, we hoped that he can make use of patient to contributed the success of Singapore. Learning new things for yourself in order to share with others is important is also another crucial factor. I can tell my family members that mental patient can do everything that a normal person can do, such as playing basketball and etc.

My impression of the mental patients before the project is that they will do something weird but they are still like normal people just only that their thinking might be just like a child or some sort, and we still could communicate with them but only it might be a little difficult.we went to the IMH 2 times the first time was just a talk and then a visit at the ward we got to communicate with them that changed my impression towards them as they are very easy to communicate with and they didn't do anything wierd as i had mentioned and they are very friendly. If my group were to go again,i would prefer to prepare refreshments for them and the other thing i prefer to change or improve on is to organize the telematch with a little more activity.During the project i found out that jerrold has good communicating skills as he has communicated well with the patients and our group members.I think that learning new things for our self in order to share with others is much more important as we learn something new we could use it or even teach others using the skills we have just obtained.
